I have this bag of resistors that are unmarked, grrrr Mad I can't believe I did that. Is there any way to identify them based on the color rings?

Thanks for that man! Turns out these are 2.2k ohms... Is that 2200 ohms or what? I need 100 ohm resistors for the PIC with the new code I bought.

Thanks Collins, but I wanted to have them on hand, so I really need to buy them. Thanks for the offer though!

Just looking at the picture and I swear it is brown, black, red, gold. Which according to the link Collins gave me, it is a 1000 watt ohm. You think that could be a typo?

Nope, It kinda looks like it in the picture but its brown black brown which is 100

If you want to be able to figure them out without using one of those heres what you do
The colours correspond to numbers
Black: 0
Brown: 1
Red: 2
Orange: 3
Yellow: 4
Green: 5
Blue: 6
Purple: 7
Grey: 8
White: 9

Now the way to read them
The first colour represesnts our first number, second represents the second number, the third represents the number of 0's after the second number. The last band represents the deviation between rated and actual:

Gold: +/- 5%
Silver: +/- 10%
None: +/- 20%

This is quite useful. We should make that a sticky. And its a good thing resistors are so cheap, because I'd be out of money to get an amp. Smile

Great. I think we should keep this here. Maybe we can gain a slight edge on Llamma. Very Happy

I like the color chart Collins gave me, very handy, maybe we could put that in the sticky too.

Oh, so if I prefer to plug in some colors that takes about 5 seconds instead of looking and comparing numbers and stuff, that makes me lazy? scratch
Guess I'm lazy! cheers

PostSubject: Re: Resistors   Wed Oct 21, 2009 5:03 am

just like to say if u have say some 200ohm resisters and want 100ohm if u wire 2 in parallel then it would make 100ohm

so basicly 2 resiters the same value in paralel = half the value
2 resisters in serries = double the value

(im an electronics engineer) if ur just wondering how i know Smile
