Just wondering if anyone has looked at these things? They look awsome.
Just one more expensive hobby I need to drool over. Anyone want to give me $50,000? My paypal account is sbaker@wildblue.net. Very Happy

damn the motors supercharged. I did that...im more interested in the motor, looks like it has a pwc carb but with a FCR injector/jet system. interesting choice for a supercharged powerplant, seems they would go injected for weight...but it appears to be SOHC, so rather simple to compliment the air cooling. Ahh wait, it is injected, smart people.

Whats the legality of flying one of those to work? It'd be nice to replace my car with, bye bye $4 daily tolls! haha

Well I know your not allowed to fly over cities but other than that, as long as you have an area to take off and land from I don't see a problem from the FAA standpoint.

I know the planes can go faster and farther but they also need a takeoff and landing strip. For me it would be much easier to land a chopper in a field than a plane.

All that engine talk went right over my head. Laughing

Oh and Collins, It would take 34 years to pay it off if you went therough the tolls every day. Though you'd probably save on gas by avoiding traffic and not following the roads.

Thats what I was thinking work is a 32 mile trip everyday (to and from combined) so its 160miles a week.

You should go on google earth and look it up as a striaght line. Apperently these things have a 110 mile range so you should be good for that. Assuming you trim 12 miles off your trip and your car gets 20mpg and you work 250 days per year. (da da da, math) You would take 10 years to pay it off.

Oh and by the way, your commute costs you $20 per day

lets not forget now, im assuming this thing doesnt run on regular fuel, looking where it makes its max power and torque (and the turbo) i would say its diesel or even running jet A. so 3 OR 10 bucks a gallon for gas.

They should make an electric one that can carry a person, then it would cost a couple dollars to fully charge.

SR2K: I probably average 225-250 miles a week. Not sure of my MPG though, it's a 93 Corolla, if you wanna figure it out.. haha I also fill up in Jersey primarily which currently is about $2.40 a gallon. I work about 240 days a year (no idea how much PTO I get, I just know it's like 20 days). Don't forget the $20 a week for tolls.

...Math away! Smile

Tick Tick Tick

14 and 1/2 years. And your car gets about 26mpg

The Ultralight actually runs on standard 87 octane unleaded gasoline so no extra cost there.

Oh and the reason there are'nt electric ones is that the battery technology isnt there yet and current technology wouldnt be able to take off for long.

hovering and taking off would drain the battery so quickly, plus with recharging and discharging always you would have to sulfate sweep the battery(ies) so often it wouldn't be worth it.

Which is why you could use a giant battery in an ultralight plane and only use it to climb up. Then you could just glide back down. I don't know how much energy it would use to climb up though.

thats the thing, it takes near or more than double of just flighing and hovering. the torque output of the motor would be amazing, therefore sucking up many amps. and who knows how many watts of power

I could simply invent a miniature nuclear fusion reactor and that should be a great energy/weight ratio.

Tack it on the back, throw in some hydrogen molecules and there ya go! As for cost, I figure I could make it out of junkyard parts (can't be that hard). Some PVC, duct tape, and some fans to get the molecules moving.

For the cost of some hydrogen I could easily make the round trip for an entire year for a few bucks.

Anyone else in on the idea?

Well that takes of one part. I already have the duct tape and this bad ass fan.

Moves a shit ton of air! Smile

You need to get a 2' long piece of 2" PVC, as well as an adapter to bring it down to 1". Get a 90° 1" piece, and a 1" to 5" adapter. Oh, don't forget a 2" endcap.

We will assemble it like so:

It's a little rediculous how much thought I put into this...

Okayy Explain to me how a computer fan, duck tape, and some pvc pipe can make enough power?

Some terrorist will find this diagram and try to make it. Laughing

Pfft... seconds.

Well you put some hydrogen in, turn on the badass fan. It will blow the molecules around and eventually two will collide and tada!
I would use Duck brand duct tape, so it would explode or anything.

wow, you have just created a badass potato gun! i used to have one...

im still working on my turbo based turbine jet engine. man i love those, something about all of the gauges. EGT (pyro), oil pressure, oil temp, rpm, boost, intake temp, fuel pressure, volts.

something about a turbo spooling up...

After I finish the F-150 im going to fabricate a turbo for a 450 super-motard (dirtbike gone street-hybrid)
